New wainscoting is one of those things that can either look incredible or fall completely flat - and the difference almost always comes down to the paint work. Gaps that aren't caulked, nail holes that aren't filled, surfaces that weren't sanded between coats. You can spot those shortcuts from across the room.

Here's what we were working with on this one: freshly installed wainscoting panels running the full length of a dining room, with all the raw edges and nail holes that come with a new install. Before a single drop of paint went on the wall, we went through everything - caulking every gap, filling every hole, and sanding smooth between coats. That prep work is what separates a finish that looks painted from one that looks built-in.

For the paint itself, we went with Sherwin-Williams Emerald Urethane. It's a trim-specific formula that dries harder than standard paint, holds up to scuffs and cleaning, and lays down incredibly smooth even when applied with brush and roller. We primed first, then put down two full coats. The result is a finish that's consistent, crisp, and built to last.

What you end up with is paneling that looks like it was always part of the house. Clean lines, no brush marks, no texture variation between the flat panels and the detailed molding profiles. That kind of uniformity doesn't happen by accident - it's the product of taking the prep as seriously as the painting itself.

If you've got wainscoting, trim, or paneling that needs a proper finish, this is exactly the kind of interior painting work we do. Getting it right the first time saves you from having to redo it down the road.
