When a homeowner is getting ready to sell, the fireplace is one of the first things buyers notice. It sits right in the middle of the living room and either pulls the space together or drags it down. This one needed a fresh start - the original dark red brick was dated and heavy-looking, and the homeowner wanted something cleaner and brighter before listing.

We started with a full brick surround going floor to ceiling, plus the raised hearth platform. The raw brick had a lot going on texturally, so prep work mattered here. We masked everything off tight - plastic sheeting sealed the ceiling, surrounding walls, and the firebox opening - so the spray application could go on clean without overspray becoming a problem anywhere else in the room.

This kind of work falls squarely in our specialty finishes category. Painting brick isn't just rolling on a coat of white and calling it done. The texture has to get full, even coverage - including inside all those mortar joints and across the rough face of each brick. We worked through it methodically to get a consistent finish across the entire surface, from the bottom of the hearth all the way up.

The result speaks for itself. The room reads completely differently with a bright, neutral fireplace instead of a dark focal point dominating the space. For a home going on the market, that kind of update helps buyers walk in and picture the room as theirs - not as something they'd have to deal with later.

Whether it's prepping a home to sell or just updating a space that's feeling stuck in a different decade, a specialty finish on brick or masonry can make a serious difference. The bones were already solid here - all it needed was the right finish to bring it into the present.
